Solitaria: A path with no return – a bilingual reading by Award-winning author Eliana Alves Cruz and MSU Assistant Professor of English and Global Studies in the Arts and Humanities Leonora Paula.

Eliana Alves Cruz is an award-winning writer, screenwriter, and journalist from Rio de Janeiro. She won the prestigious Jabuti Prize in 2022 for her acclaimed book A Vestida. Her debut novel, Água de Barrela, received the 2015 Oliveira Silveira Award from the Palmares Cultural Foundation/Ministry of Culture and earned an honorable mention for the 2018 Thomas Skidmore Award from the National Archives and Brown University.

Her second novel, O Crime do Cais do Valongo, was celebrated by critics and was a semi-finalist for the 2019 Oceanos Prize.

In 2020, she released Nada Digo de Ti, Que Não Vejo em Ti, which earned a prize from the Brazilian Writers’ Union in 2022. Her latest novel, Solitária, published by Companhia das Letras in 2022, quickly appeared on the bestseller list. Eliana is also the author of two children’s books: A Copa Frondosa da Árvore and O Desenho do Mundo.

Eliana is also an Emmy-nominated screenwriter for the Paramount+ series Anderson Spider Silva (2023), and she is a content creator for the Narrativas Negras project.

Currently, Eliana is a host on TV Brasil’s Trilha de Letras program. Her novel Solitária will be published in English by Astra House in August 2025.
