ABOUT
A Collaborative Exhibition
January 13 – February 15 | Opening Reception Thursday, January 16, 5-7PM
Living means grappling with the unexpected. A sudden disruption and change affects what we felt we knew, and it shakes our core. We are left with an altered landscape and sense of loss tangled in layers of uncertainty and grief.
Reclaiming Space is a call for community participation to reflect, heal, and come together through art-making. Creativity provides an outlet to process complicated emotions and experiences and allows us to sit in it. We invite you to be present in the gallery space. Sit on the couch near the window. Draw and paint on the provided canvases. Use prompts for introspection. Create a flower or two and add it to the sculpture. The artworks in this exhibition will evolve as the show progresses. Every mark made, each piece of paper attached, is a necessary layer that contributes to the whole. We are a resilient community, and we will heal together.
This show is made possible through collaboration with the Department of Art, Art History, & Design and 517 Poetry Room. Special thanks to Andrea Allen, Avy Fimiani, Kayla Fineout, Jillian Moreno, and Rebecca Casement for helping this exhibition come to fruition.
