ABOUT

Now in its 29th season, the Muelder Summer Carillon Concert Series brings the distinctive sound of Beaumont Tower’s bells to life from the heart of MSU’s beautiful campus. Curated by Jon Lehrer, University Carillonist of MSU, the series invites listeners to gather on the surrounding grounds for a summer evening of music. Concerts take place Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in July and the first week of August and are free and open to the public. Bring a chair or blanket, pack a picnic, and come enjoy this treasured summer tradition at MSU.

Guest Carillonist: Margaret Pan
Margaret Pan is a freelance carillonneur based in Boston and an active international performer. A winner of the 2017 International Carillon Competition in Springfield, Illinois, she has appeared as a featured recitalist at festivals and congresses across Europe and North America, including events of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America and the World Carillon Federation. Pan has studied at the Royal Carillon School in Mechelen and has taught beginning students and led masterclasses at institutions including Yale University and the University of Toronto.

Program
Pan’s program offers a lively and varied summer program that moves easily between classical traditions and familiar, accessible works. Featuring music by composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach alongside popular selections by Stephen Sondheim and Sting, the concert balances reflective works with dance‑inspired pieces and music drawn from nature and imagination. Together, these selections highlight the carillon’s expressive flexibility while creating an engaging and welcoming listening experience in an outdoor setting.
