About the Artist:

MSU Women of Color Initiatives names Porsha Olayiwola as their 2025 Artist-in-Residence. Olayiwola is a Chicago born, Boston based writer, performer, educator, and curator who uses Afro futurism and surrealism to examine historical and current issues in the Black, woman, and queer diasporas. She earned her MFA in poetry from Emerson College and is the author of i shimmer sometimes, too. She is also an Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, the founder of the Roxbury Poetry Festival, and is the current poet laureate for the city of Boston. The artist-in-residence series empowers community members and MSU students, faculty, and staff with new skills and conversations that center around the arts and social justice. Please join us in our upcoming schedule of events to engage in meaningful dialogue and performances with Olayiwola.
