ABOUT

This Smithsonian exhibition showcases dramatic digital X-ray images of fish skeletons, revealing the inner structures of one of the most diverse groups of vertebrates on Earth. Featuring approximately 40 prints drawn from the Smithsonian’s National Collection of Fishes—the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind—the exhibition highlights the intersection of science and art by presenting the intricate beauty of fish anatomy while advancing understanding of evolution and biodiversity. Curated by Smithsonian scientists Lynne Parenti and Sandra RaredonX-Ray Vision invites visitors to see beneath the surface of aquatic species, sparking curiosity, research, and discovery. The exhibition also aligns with the MSU Museum’s leadership in creating digital surrogates of collections, as demonstrated through its work in the Bloomberg Accelerator program, reinforcing the Museum’s role at the forefront of digital innovation in collections care and public engagement.
